Fraud Prevention and Compromised Accounts

If you believe someone has accessed your Newegg account without your permission, or if you want to take steps to prevent it from happening, this article walks you through what to do.

Signs Your Account May Be Compromised

You received a password reset email you didn’t request

You received an order confirmation for something you didn’t buy

Your email address, password, shipping address, or payment method was changed without your knowledge

You cannot sign in even though you’re confident in your credentials

You received a sign-in notification from an unfamiliar device or location

What to Do Immediately

1. Change your password.
Update your password right away using a device you trust. Choose something strong and unique — not used on any other site. See Change your email or password.

2. Enable 2-Step Verification.
If you haven’t already, turn on 2-Step Verification so that signing in requires both your password and a code sent to your phone. See 2-Step Verification.

3. Review your account.
Check the following for anything unfamiliar:

Order History — look for orders you didn’t place

Account Settings — check for changes to your email, shipping addresses, or saved payment methods

Remove any addresses or payment methods you don’t recognize

4. Contact Newegg.
Report the issue to Newegg as soon as possible. Provide any unauthorized order numbers you found — orders that haven’t shipped yet may still be cancelled. Reach us at https://kb.newegg.com/contact-us.

5. Contact your bank.
If a payment method on your account was used without your permission, call the number on the back of your card to report fraud and request a replacement card number.

Preventing Account Compromise

Use a unique password for Newegg that you don’t use anywhere else

Enable 2-Step Verification — see 2-Step Verification

Keep your email address current so you receive security alerts promptly — see Change your email or password

Be alert to phishing — Newegg will never ask for your password or payment details by email, text, or phone call. See Identifying a Scam for guidance

If You Can’t Access Your Account

If your email address was changed by an unauthorized person and you can no longer sign in, contact Newegg support directly at https://kb.newegg.com/contact-us. Have your original account email address and recent order history details ready to verify your identity.
