Newegg.com charges sales tax on orders shipping to states where we’re required to collect it. Tax-exempt organizations and resellers can apply for exemption through their Newegg account. Pick a topic below.
How sales tax works
When tax is NOT charged
Tax is not applied to an order in any of these three cases:
No state sales tax
The state or city doesn’t have a sales tax requirement.
Tax holiday in effect
A state sales tax holiday is active and the items qualify.
Approved tax exemption
A valid tax exemption is submitted and applied to your account.
State tax holidays
In accordance with state laws, Newegg participates in all state tax holidays. For the full list of state holidays and eligible/ineligible items, visit the Sales Tax Institute’s reference page.

Applying for tax exemption
Before you start
Make sure you have all the necessary information ready:
• Territory or state in which you wish to apply
• Entity type of your organization
• Organization’s address
• Exemption numbers or exemption form* (if applicable)
*Some state or U.S. territory exemptions are only issued by their respective authorities. If you have such an exemption, you’ll be asked to upload your certificate for enrollment.
How to apply
1. Create a Newegg account if you don’t already have one.
2. Open the Tax Exemption Application.
During checkout, select Apply for Tax Exemption under the order summary — or from your account dashboard, navigate to Manage Account → Tax Exemption Application.
3. Click Submit Tax Exemption.
You’ll also see a list of any previous certificates you’ve submitted.
4. Upload your tax certificate.
Make sure all required information (see below) is included on it.
Required on your tax certificate
- Business/organization name (individual’s name is not accepted)
- State-issued exemption number and/or FEIN# (if applicable)
- Certificate dated in the current year
- Seller’s name and address: Newegg Inc, 21688 Gateway Center Dr. Suite 300, Diamond Bar, CA 91765
- Description of items that will be purchased with Newegg (e.g., IT hardware, software, computer peripherals)
Charitable, educational, religious, state, or federal government entities based outside U.S. territory: refer to your respective state’s Sales and Use Tax website for additional documentation requirements. Upload any funds verification documentation when prompted during the exemption upload process.
Processing time
All submitted tax exemption certificates take 2 business days to process. Once your application is approved, future orders will no longer be taxed by Newegg.com. The Tax Exemption Team will email you within 48 hours to confirm enrollment or request additional information.
Resale permits & certificates
A valid resale permit and reseller certificate must be in place during purchase to qualify for sales tax exemption. Here’s what each one needs to include:
Valid resale permit
A valid resale permit number, date, and company name verified against state government data base.
Valid resale certificate
Date, description of property being purchased for reseller, and signed reseller certificate.
